NBA commissioner David Stern has indefinitely suspended Gilbert Arenas without pay following allegations of pulling a gun out on a teammate, saying the Washington Wizards guard is”not currently fit to take the court” for a game. The news comes after Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton–both players on the Washington Wizards– reportedly drew guns on each other during a locker-room argument over a gambling debt.
Arenas, in the second season of a six-year, $111 million contract, was suspended for Washington’s season opener in 2004 because he failed to maintain proper registration of a handgun while living in California in 2003.
It's a sad commentary that these professional athletes are able to negotiate these contracts for millions of dollars but are unable to have enough common sense not to display this level of stupidity.
